π Help for male domestic abuse in Kent & Medway
Domestic abuse affects people of all genders. While often associated with women, the latest Office for National Statistics figures show that one in three victims of domestic are male which equates to 751,000 men a week in the UK!
This type of abuse can take many forms, including physical, emotional, and financial harm. It’s important to remember that there is no shame in seeking help. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic abuse, please know that support is available.
Look Ahead has launched a domestic abuse service for males and those identifying as males across Kent and Medway. Male Independent Domestic Abuse Advocacy Service (MIDAAS) works with men who have experienced or are experiencing domestic abuse.
This support is provided either by an Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (IDVA) or from a domestic abuse worker depending on an individualβs circumstances and current risk level. Look Ahead also runs a male survivors group which clients can be moved onto if they wish once support has ended.
Self-referrals can be made through the helpline or website: https://www.lookahead.org.uk/male-domestic-abuse-advise-service/

π Off to uni? Make sure you register with a GP!
Freshers Week is coming up in September. From a few patient conversations, we know that quite a few local youngsters are going off to university, some leaving home and setting up in completely new towns and cities.
As you embark on your university adventure, remember to take care of your health. One essential step is to register with a GP practice near your university.
Registering with a GP will ensure you have access to important healthcare services, including:
- Repeat prescriptions: If you take regular medication, registering will make it easier to get your prescriptions refilled.
- Out-of-hours GP appointments: Should you need one, registering locally makes the process of getting an out-of-hours GP appointment a bit easier.
- Vaccinations: Stay up-to-date with essential vaccinations like the flu jab and boosters.
- General health advice: Your GP can offer guidance on everything from nutrition to mental health.
Don’t forget to register as soon as you move to your university accommodation. It’s a simple process that can make a big difference to your overall wellbeing during your student years.
